Improvisation for Clinicians
The Mayutica Institute for Communication in Medicine (MICM) offers customized curricula for all professionals involved in patient care. Topics include teamwork, difficult conversations, empathy, power dynamics, and resilience, among others. Coursework is relevant for nurses, physicians, physical therapists, pharmacists, athletic trainers, veterinarians, social workers, dentists, counselors, and all other kinds of care providers, at all levels of professional training. The Mayutica Institute also offers curricular advising for organizations wishing to develop their own improvisational-based coursework.
Improv Theatre Resources
Taking an improv theatre class in your local community will give you skills that will enrich your professional and personal experiences, because the skills of improv theatre are the same as the skills of medical improvisation. Explore your local theatres, improv groups, and drama schools for upcoming classes. If you are able to travel, professional improv groups such as Second City, iO, and the Annoyance Theatre offer intensive/immersive courses throughout the year, primarily in summer, and mostly in Chicago.
